NCDSB Recess Project

This project was initiated by Dr. McNamara, a research scientist, whose work focuses on the dynamic role of children’s school-based relationships, particularly the ways in which they influence inclusion, equity, and well-being. Working with Dr. Lauren McNamara and a group of volunteers led by Walker Industries, we designed these outdoor spaces for the schools in need and participated in the building process with the volunteers. The improved outdoor spaces give the “not-so-popular kids” things to do and places to hide during recesses. This is an extremely rewarding project and we are currently working on the design for a third school.
